Our wedding venue of the month hails from the beautiful Sierra region of Northern California.
Twenty Mile House is a premier eco-friendly wedding estate that will truly fulfill your wildest vintage/outdoor/country/ethereal wedding dreams, which of course is why we love it.
With many Northern Cali brides looking outside of the busy (and expensive) Bay Area for their ideal wedding venue, “mini” destination weddings have become a hot trend over the past few years. Now, traveling 1, 2 or in this case 3.5, hours outside the hustle and bustle of San Francisco is the ideal situation for those who want a secluded getaway without the hassle of planning a wedding outside of the state.
Having grown up attending camp in this quiet, lesser known summer vacation region just outside of Truckee, it seemed like the natural fit for me to find venues in the area that I could work with and share all of the things I love about the area. Twenty Mile House was one of my first contacts, and I was immediately greeted by the energetic and personable owner, Kevin Gage. His love of the land was evident upon my first meeting with him as he was tending to the newly grown flowers outside of the front entrance to the main house. He happily led me on a tour of the historic and diverse property where my little camera could hardly keep up with all of the shots I was taking.
The property is pushed back off of the main highway and completely and utterly secluded. The history property dates back to 1854 and was formerly a stage coach shop on the Western Pacific Railroad. Rounding a bend at the end of the road, you are greeted with the main house- a charming building that served at the actual lodging quarters for railway and stage coach passengers. This front lawn is one of the three main ceremony sites that the 200 acre property boasts.
The house itself holds grandeur of a world past. From the authentic brick layers to the ornate moldings and the actually used Train Schedule chalkboard- everywhere you look is a reminder of what used to be. The main house and secondary house on the property have ample room to host your entire bridal party with several preferred (and equally cute- we love Sierra Sky Lodge located just down the road) inns and hotels for the remainder of your guests. Local shuttle companies are frequently used to bring guests to and from the property to avoid the hassle of driving after a night of partying. This comes in especially handy since the venue has no noise restrictions and (in theory) you could party all night long if you wanted to!
The expansive outdoor spaces remind me of the sprawling lawn we used for Jen and Nick’s Princess Bride Wedding– only this property has even more stunning elements to inspired the different scenes of your perfect wedding day: a secluded redwood grove, an energetic riverside beach, a charming brick patio, a historic shop… the list goes on and on.
Best of all, this estate is 100% certified eco-friendly! The preferred vendor list consists of all local vendors and every precaution available has been taken to give brides and grooms the satisfaction of knowing their big day made a small carbon footprint.
We are delighted to share this venue with our clients and are always looking for an excuse to visit this magical place. Contact us today to learn more about this venue!
